To kick things off, we thought: what better way to start than by sharing the story behind the brand (and me, Jenny)? You might be wondering: What does Jenny Be Free even mean? What does it stand for? And who exactly is Jenny?!

The Story Behind the Name

It all started with me, Jennifer. Growing up, my close friends would call me Jenny… and guess what? I hated it!!! But as I got older, I realized it was actually kind of sweet—only the people who were truly close to me used it.

Fast-forward to my 20s when I began traveling the world. My friends started calling me Jenny Be Free, because I was always marching to the beat of my own drum, embracing adventure, and living life to the fullest. Now don’t get me wrong—I’ve had my insecurities like anyone else. But I’ve always believed in choosing freedom over fear, and that confidence is what people around me noticed. That’s how the nickname JBF (Jenny Be Free) stuck.

When it came time to start my business, I had no idea what to call it. At first, it was JBF Apparel—I thought it might grow into a broad lifestyle brand. But as I took things more seriously, I worked with a branding strategist who asked, “Why not just use Jenny Be Free? It’s such a great name!”

The more I thought about it, the more it clicked. Jenny Be Free wasn’t just a nickname anymore—it became a tagline: “Be free to be yourself.” What started as something endearing turned into a mission: encouraging others to feel empowered by embracing their true, authentic selves.

And here’s my favorite part: through the name Jenny Be Free, I’ve connected with so many other Jennifers, Jens, and Jennys. It’s been incredible to realize that it’s more than just a name—it’s a feeling, a movement, and a connection.

Why Jewelry?

Okay, let’s get real for a second. Have you ever spent way too much money on a piece of jewelry, only for it to irritate your skin? Maybe your ears got sore from earrings, your necklace left a rash, or your ring turned your finger green. Same. 

I got tired of it.

So, I set out to create a brand that offers affordable, high-quality jewelry that anyone can wear comfortably and confidently. Tarnish-resistant and hypoallergenic—it’s basically a jewelry lover’s dream!

This was never just a side hustle for me. It was (and is) fueled by passion, creativity, and the desire to make people feel good in what they wear. While some brands make you feel like you have to be a certain “type” of person to wear their jewelry, Jenny Be Free is different. Here, everyone is welcome to deck themselves out in gold and silver and be free to be their true selves.

Being versatile, timeless, trendy, chic, and unique is all part of the JBF identity. While trends come and go (and yes, they can be hard to keep up with!), we focus a lot on timeless style/everyday pieces—making our jewelry perfect for all seasons, day or night.

Right now, we’re working on our newest fall collection, and let me tell you—it’s my favorite. There’s just something magical about fall: cozy outfits, fresh energy, and fun date nights. I always pour my heart and soul into our fall pieces because, for me, it’s the season of inspiration and renewal.

Life Behind the Brand

Running a small business can definitely be stressful (do I really unwind? Lol!). But I do my best to reset and recharge. I’m a total water baby, so slipping into my hot tub is one of the few times I can truly relax.

I also love photography, playing sports like golf, tennis, skiing, and pickleball—basically anything fun that keeps me active. Add in trying new restaurants and traveling (a huge source of my creative inspiration), and you’ve got a pretty good picture of what fuels me outside of the business.
